I separated in 1998 from my children's father. It was a hard decision to
make. They were 7 and 9 at
the time. I took computer courses to help me get a better
paying job. I had not worked in almost 10 years.
A few months later I met a
very sweet man. He was what I needed and he adored my children! He
always has time for them. We married in 2000 and moved into his home. When
I met him, he had survived problems of his own. Just a few weeks before we
met he had survived a heart attack and had to have a triple
by-pass. He had and still has no health insurance. The bills were huge! His church helped him some but we are still paying on
those,($9500)
remaining.
Several months after we
married, my ex-husband brought the children home after his weekend. He informs
me he wants the kids to come live with him.
I received papers taking
me to court for custody in Oct 2001. We hired an attorney ($3500 so far). This was money we didn't have especially since I had
not found work yet. We had to use our credit cards. I was not going to
give in without a fight.
I
finally have a court date (June9). I have been instructed by my attorney
to postpone seeking work since I had always been a stay at home. I should do
whatever it took to remain so until we settle in court.
My husband is self-employed
and does small construction. His work has been very slow, especially
around the last the holidays. He still makes more money doing this
than getting a regular 9 to 5. I am concerned about his
health, being so financially stressed especially since his heart surgery in
1998. He also has sleep apnea and needs a device called a
Snore Guard. It has to be fitted by a dentist and starting costs in my
area are $275. Geeez, its just a plastic mouthpiece. He really
needs it and it does help. His last one deteriorated and the lack of quality sleep
will strain his
already damaged heart !
P.S.
I love my kids and my
husband and will do whatever it takes to see us though!.
